Antonio P. Garcia, Jr.
Born and raised in San Francisco, Antonio is a graduate of the city’s Lowell High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in International Relations and Political Science from the University of California, Davis, where he graduated with Honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law (“King Hall”), where he was a member of the U.C. Davis Law Review and an officer of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association. During law school, he served as a judicial extern in the chambers of the Honorable Joyce L. Kennard of the California Supreme Court and in the chambers of the Honorable James R. Lambden of the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District. After graduating from King Hall, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Christopher M. Klein of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of California.
In practice for over twenty years, Antonio worked in private law firms in San Francisco. Before opening his own office, Antonio was a partner at a San Francisco-based law firm focused on complex litigation.
During the course of his legal career, Antonio has counseled and advocated for private individuals, businesses of all sizes, and fiduciaries in industries such as financial services, technology, manufacturing, and real estate. Among the matters in which he was involved:
- Briefed and argued an appeal on behalf of individual and corporate defendants involving commercial claims. The appellate court affirmed the trial court’s judgment in favor of the defendants.
- Represented an international company’s subsidiary in a four-year commercial litigation case against a manufacturer. The case was resolved successfully for the subsidiary.
- Served as bankruptcy counsel for a court-appointed fiduciary involved in trust litigation with a beneficiary. Successfully obtained relief in the beneficiary's multiple bankruptcy cases, and the beneficiary's adversary proceeding and bankruptcy appeals were dismissed.
- Represented an investment bank in a case involving commercial and real property claims against a mortgage company and its president. The case was resolved successfully for the investment bank through mediation.
- Persuaded a government agency to dismiss a tenant's complaint for disability discrimination against a corporate landlord.
- Brought a fraud action on behalf of a private individual against a real estate professional. The case was resolved successfully through mediation.
- Represented a biotechnology company in a commercial unlawful detainer action against its corporate tenant whose owner was unlawfully residing at the property. Successfully removed the tenant and owner from the company’s property.
- Brought a real property action on behalf of commercial property owners against a neighboring business. Successfully obtained an injunction to prevent the business from continuously violating the owners’ real property rights.
- Persuaded the bankruptcy court to sustain a bankruptcy trustee’s objection to a creditor’s claim based on California’s employment law.
- Negotiated a favorable settlement on behalf of an online advertising company to prevent a bankruptcy trustee’s preferential transfer action against the company.
- Counseled a Southern California corporation in the drafting and review of its business agreements.
- Served as employment law counsel on an out-of-state corporation’s due diligence team that investigated a potential business acquisition in California.
In addition to his law practice, Antonio has volunteered to help the communities in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. From 2009 through 2016, Antonio served on the Board of Directors of the Filipino-American Development Foundation, a private nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the underserved Filipino and South of Market communities of San Francisco. From 2004 through 2010, Antonio served on the Board of Directors of Richmond Area Multi-Services, Inc. (RAMS), a private nonprofit mental health agency based in San Francisco, and was chair of the board from 2006 through 2007.
Antonio still calls San Francisco his home. He enjoys living in the city and traveling the Bay Area's backroads with his wife, son, and two dogs.
